Kathy: Li'l Farmers

Today we spent the afternoon at the Indiana State Fair. It was way too hot and sunny for my liking, but we had a good time anyway. The kids declared the horses to be their favorite attraction, while David seemed mostly enamored with the food. My favorite attraction was the cake decorating contest (how do people come up with these ideas?), followed by anything else that was indoors and air conditioned.

In response to many questions, Leah May seemed to have a great first day at school. She must have been a little insecure about whether or not she was really coming home at the end of the day, though, because she kept hugging me and asking me to pick her up all evening! The rest of the week also seemed to go well.

Leah May's English has already improved with just one week of school. She's using complete, correct sentences more and more. At some point soon she's supposed to be tested by the ESL teacher at her school, and then she'll begin daily individual or small-group sessions with the teacher to further improve her English skills.

That's all I have to report for now, but I hope you enjoy the photos of our day at the fair. I seem to have misplaced the ones that show me sunburned and sweltering in the Indiana summer heat.
