Kathy: Biker Chick

Even before we left the Philippines, Leah May has been talking about learning to ride a bike, and she finally got her wish. We bought one on Thursday, and I think she'd ride it all day long if we let her. We spent all evening last night riding back and forth on our driveway (see photo below), and then we spent all morning today at the school down the street so that she and Rene could take advantage of the large, empty parking lot.

At the risk of stating the obvious, it's not easy teaching someone who doesn't speak English very well how to ride a bike! But we'll get there. In the meantime, she's relying heavily on Rene's old Spiderman training wheels and seems to be getting the hang of balance and controlling the bike.

On another note, Leah May has done a complete turnaround where David is concerned. She now greets him heartily at every opportunity (even pounding on the window while he was mowing the grass today until I made her stop) and gives him several hugs a day. We knew the day would come eventually, but it's still a relief to see her finally want to be in the same room with her daddy!
