Kathy: Me, Old?

Sleep at last--for all of us! Leah May woke up only once last night, so we're hoping that our attempts to get her on the correct sleeping schedule are working. I'm sure she's also sleeping with one eye open, not sure what might happen next. Even Rene, who's never given us a moment of trouble where sleep is concerned, was a rather restless sleeper for the first few months here. I'm sure she'll sleep more soundly before long.

I also discovered one thing that's been troubling her: She thinks we're putting her to bed in the morning! It's no wonder she might think this, since it gets dark around 6:30 in the Philippines. I explained that nighttime can still be light in the States, but I'm not sure she's buying it.

Leah May continued this morning where she left off last night, with constant crying. Last night she was starting to look a little wild-eyed, and for a while this morning the crying was turning into screaming. I was sure that tantrums would soon follow and warned Rene that if she turns violent he needs to get away from her and find Mommy or Daddy if we're not already there. But suddenly she discovered some jewelry that my kind sisters-in-law had bought for her, and she immediately calmed down and set about organizing everything into the jewlery box they also bought.

Later we went shopping, which also seemed to interest her, and when we got home she and Rene took some water guns outside to play. I'm surprised that something like water guns interested her, but boy did she love it! My brother returned to our house to help David hang the closet doors, and he was amazed at her turnaround! This evening I put away her clothes in her new furniture and hung her curtains and put up some decorations. She seemed to enjoy that too, so I'm glad now that I didn't get everything done before we left. I'll be surprised if tomorrow doesn't see more crying or even screaming, but it was nice to have a break today.

I'll close this post with a story that I'm sure everyone but me will find amusing. Below is a recap of a conversation I had with a clerk at a store today. She was probably in her late teens.

Clerk: Are those your kids?

Me: Yes.

Clerk: Are they adopted?

Me: Yes.

Clerk: I think that's great. I plan to adopt someday when I'm old too.
